Maldives under U.N. scrutiny for blogger’s death, quashing dissent

More than 30 Western international locations are referred to as the Maldives by the U.N. The joint announcement advised the government to “prevent the intimidation of human rights defenders,” which includes folks that promote violent extremism. “Legitimate opposition stays an essential factor of a healthy democracy, and the freedoms of assembly and expression must be granted to all.”

Forum-Asia, a non-governmental enterprise that promotes human rights and development, welcomed the “extraordinary censure” on the council, adding that “the government is yet to maintain a reputable investigation” into Rasheed’s murder.
